The McLachlan Story Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1968, Sarah Mclachlan has been well known for the past ten years as a successful songwriter guitar player, pianist and vocalist. What has been her most recognized talent though has been her ability to incorporate such strong feelings into her music through happiness, depression, sadness and love. These messages have attracted countless "fumblers" (fans) all over the world. She was discovered at the age of 17 by Terry McBride of Nettwerk but did not sign on with the company until two years later when her parents finally agreed. This however allowed her to finish arts school and move on to release her debut album "Touch" in 1988. Her music was reviewed to be extrordinarily similar to that of Kate Bush with her high vocal range. Sarah though was not played extensively on radio and her hit single "Vox" quietly drifted away. It was not until the release of "Solace", her second album, that Canadians began to take notice. Her style shifted slightly towards a more folk acoustic setting and both writer/producer Merchand allowed her to drop her voice down closer to the tone at which she speaks. She then went on to release "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", her most successful album yet. The third record rocked both Canadian and American charts with singles such as "Possession", "Good Enough" and "Elsewhere". This launched her first North American tour placing her under the public spotlight. McLachlan then proceeded to record both "The Freedom Sessions" and "B-Sides, Rarities and Other Stuff" with remixes and extended versions of many songs from her previous three albums. Sarah also organized the first all female tour named "Lilith Fair" which unexpectantly became more successful than imagined. With a roster relying only on female musicians, Lilith stormed across North America. After an exhausting year, McLachlan took time to relax and record her latest album "Surfacing" with hit singles such as "Building a Mystery", "Sweet Surrender", "Adia" and "Angel". Now almost two years after it's release Sarah has put out "Mirrorball", an album completely comprised of live recordings from two nights in Portland during the Surfacing tour. Finally, Sarah has set aside some time to herself after completing the 1999 Lilith Fair Tour to spend time with her husband and work on having a child. When will she head back into the recording studio? Only time can tell.....
